The organisers of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN are excited to announce that a combined total of just over R82 000.00 was raised for the event’s two cherished charities, the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation and the Johannesburg SPCA.

“We are overwhelmed by the support that entrants showed to the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN’s two charities,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.  “These two charities lie close to our hearts.  The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is instrumental in numerous inner city projects that cross a broad spectrum including education, research and rejuvenation, while by supporting the SPCA we are able to do our part for Johannesburg’s animals.   When entering online, runners could choose to support either or both of our charities.  We are truly thankful to each and every runner that made these donations possible.”

The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation was founded in 1985 and is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg’s built heritage.

According to Brett McDougall of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN exposed runners to the magnificent inner city and its architectural treasures.  “We are immensely proud to be associated with this event, because it celebrates our City, and because it supports the built heritage of Johannesburg.  We are thrilled that we will be receiving a donation. The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organisation, run by volunteers.  Donations allow us to continue our important work in research, conservation, education and activism.”

Also a non- profit organisation, the Johannesburg SPCA started operating in 1902 and depends entirely on the kindness and support of individuals and companies.

“We are extremely proud to be a charity of such an auspicious event,” says Jolene Beyleveld, Public Relations Officer Johannesburg SPCA.  “Animals play an integral part in society and therefore need protection and someone to stand up for them.  We are able to do this for them, but only with the help of supporters and friends.  Our team of seven staff members absolutely loved taking part in the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.  It was wonderfully organised and the vibe on the day was absolutely amazing.  The donation will help us continue to ensure that we achieve our mission and vision of uplifting the welfare of all animals, and that our team are able to get to where they are needed.  We are thankful to the runners and the organisers for this amazing donation.”

The inaugural FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN kicked off at FNB Bank City Johannesburg on Heritage Day (Saturday, 24 September 2016).  Runners, walkers, fitness enthusiasts and fun-seekers were granted the unique opportunity to celebrate Johannesburg’s rich heritage by exploring their city before crossing the finish line at Mary Fitzgerald Square Newtown.

About the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN sponsorship:

FNB Business has decided to sponsor the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN because we believe in supporting a race that encourages people to run and know their city; a race that will re-invent how people perceive and experience the city centre. The FNB Bank City buildings are well-known and iconic buildings in the Johannesburg CBD and the precinct was recently revamped in 2015 with three lifestyle concepts of Work, Eat & Play in mind. For many years it has been viewed as traditional banking headquarters; however the recent revamp has positively changed the experience of the precinct. The additions of new restaurants, coffee shops, health & beauty stores and other stores of interest have been well received.  Sponsoring the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN is aligned to our belief in the importance of rejuvenating and reviving the city centre so it remains relevant.
