Johannesburg The organisers of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN are proud to announce that the inaugural event, taking place on Saturday, 24 September 2016 (National Heritage Day), will support the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.

Founded in 1985, the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg’s built heritage.

“The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is instrumental in numerous inner city projects that cross a broad spectrum including education, research and rejuvenation,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.  “We are extremely proud to support the Foundation and the magnificent work that it does.”

“The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN promises to be one of the most unique and innovative running events on the South African calendar,” continues Meyer.  “We believe the event will support the regeneration of the urban centre of Johannesburg.  We look forward to welcoming thousands of runners to the start line in September, ready to explore their city.”

According to Brett McDougall of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN is a wonderful manner in which Johannesburg residents can get to know their city, and have fun doing so.  “We’re honoured to be a part of an event that celebrates our City, and encourages its citizens to explore its streets.  Johannesburg is 130 years old this year, and the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN will be passing some of its most famous sites, many of which we have protected through our activism. We hope that the event will encourage many participants to come back and explore the City, perhaps on one of our tours.”

About the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN sponsorship:

FNB Business has decided to sponsor the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN because we believe in supporting a race that encourages people to run and know their city; a race that will re-invent how people perceive and experience the city centre. The FNB Bank City buildings are well-known and iconic buildings in the Johannesburg CBD and the precinct was recently revamped in 2015 with three lifestyle concepts of Work, Eat & Play in mind. For many years it has been viewed as traditional banking headquarters; however the recent revamp has positively changed the experience of the precinct. The additions of new restaurants, coffee shops, health & beauty stores and other stores of interest have been well received.  Sponsoring the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN is aligned to our belief in the importance of rejuvenating and reviving the city centre so it remains relevant.
